While most climate models and work about atmospheric thermodynamics? take into account the first law of thermodynamics, the conservation of energy, the role of entropy in climate science is not quite clear yet. To be more precise: The second law of thermodynamics is usually understood to refer to systems in equillibrium. Therefore climate science is mostly concerned with generalizations that are applicable to processes in nonequillibrium situations, like principles of maximum entropy production.
